The deep self view is an outlook towards moral responsibility. It is used to
explain that one is responsible for ones actions if one is in control of their will. Wolf
believes that these conditions are what can be used to hold someone morally
responsible for actions that person commits. Free will is humankind’s most basic
desire, which motivates a person to do or not do something. The example of JoJo
being not sane and not responsible for the actions performed is used to undermine
the deep self view. JoJo is not considered to be using free will, because of the father
being an evil dictator, JoJo was raised to accept his dad evil ways.
Now, Wolf’s analysis leads me to question the process I use on awarding
praise and blame towards a person’s actions. I want to use the example used in the
video. If a man serves a dish to a friend that contains poppy seeds and he thinks the
friend is deathly allergic, yet the friend is not allergic and does not die, I think that
man should still be charged with the intent to kill. I know his actions did not lead to
a death, but he had intentions to kill and went through with a plan to kill someone,
even if faulted. Now for another example, if a peanuts were put onto a salad and
served to a friend, yet that friend was deathly allergic and ate the salad, and later
died, that man should not be held responsible for the friends death. I do believe
