Are video games detrimental?
In society today, video games are one of the main forms of electronic entertainment.
Technology is being enhanced everyday, while new games are being made. There are a variety
of different games in our modern era, most of them being bad. Video games are detrimental to
younger generations health.
The youth of today spend a gaping amount of time with electronics. Technology can be
seen all around with youth, just by a quick glance of the eye. “ 91 percent of teenagers, ages 13
to 17, access the internet and have cell phones.”(Wireless) According to digitialtrends.com of all
the teens that have access to the internet 85% of them play video games. Video games are
affecting nearly ¾ of teenagers.
Teens tend to take more of a liking to video games that show violence and/or sexual
content. These video games are typically rate MA+ meaning the game is meant for mature
adults, not teens. Since these games are rated for mature viewers only, people under 18 years of
age cannot buy them. How do the teens get their hands on them then, you might ask. Teens are
not the only ones at fault for playing these games, but so are the people providing the games.
Parents are usually the ones to blame for providing their teens with violent or sexual video
games. This simply is because of a lack of knowledge from the parents, or you may even say
laziness.

Parents worldwide are buying these mature video games for their children. Their child
will ask for the game that they prefer. Instead of researching on the game that their child wants,
parents will blindlessly go buy the game, instead of sitting down and doing research on it. Not
realizing that they may have just given their child a game which may show sexual or violent
things.
These games can drastically change the way a young mind shapes. Violent games can
alter the way an adolescent sees the world. These games will show violent images, which will
make some teens think that it is okay to do these things, since they are in games. It also may
affect the way a teen may behave in a certain situation. If a young person plays a game that
involves fist fighting, they may become more likely to engage in a fist fight. Imagine the
characters in the game begin fighting because one of the characters says something the other
