Russian International Trade
A.) Introduction
The Russian economy, like most countries, is reliant on their imports and exports to gain
wealth. As a country that has the ability to export crucial natural resources such as crude oil,
Russia has a type of advantage compared to other countries without those natural resources. The
terms of international trade have been up in the air due to the recent changes in U.S political
powers. In other words, Donald Trump is currently changing the normal procedures that went
along with international trade. Recently, Trump has made accusations that the trading partners of
U.S have been a cause of the U.S trade deficit. In turn, these accusations are concerning to any
country who is involved in trade with the U.S. The assumptions Donald Trump are making will
cause other countries to re-evaluate their trading partners. The trade regulations and standards are
likely to be changed or made stricter due to the new U.S President. The implications of these
actions are alarming to other countries like Russia because obviously U.S is a dominate force
when it comes to international trade. Luckily, Russia doesn’t count U.S as a major export
destination but, Russia can be affected by potentially losing some important imports for
America. The changes to the international trade are not guaranteed to happen but if they did it
could cause controversy. Currently Russia is ranked in the top 15 countries for exporting, which
is higher considering the amount of countries in the ranking is 221. Within this research paper,
the three topics to be discussed are Russian imports, Russian exports, and the top Russian
international firms. The Russian imports vary widely from computers and computer parts,
packaged medicine, and vehicles. These imports are coming from all over, mainly Germany,
China, and the U.S. Exports on the other hand, is a majority of crude oil going to many different
places throughout Europe and China. The top international firms for Russia, since the main
export is oil, are all oil companies including Gazprom and Lukoil.

Imports are simply a need that every country has, whether the import is food, or vehicles, or
even oil, it is all necessary for a country. Russia, has dealt first hand on what it’s like to cut off
major imports from other countries. In the summer of 2014, Russia was under accusations of
supplying weapons to eastern Ukraine but these accusations were denied by Russia of course.
With these accusations, countries like U.S and much of Europe were subjecting Russia to some
kind of sanctions. In response to these sanctions, Russia was furious and decided it was a good
idea to create a ban on imports from U.S, European Union, Canada, Norway, and Australia. The
ban was instilled to last a year long and it included products such as, meats, fish, milk products,
fruits, and vegetables. The implications of Russia banning these countries was that Russia wasn’t
