Women and girls enjoyed very few rights during the Vietnam War period. They were
chained by Confucius’ teachings which requested them to obey fully their fathers, spouses, and
sons. The French colonial government never challenged their subordination to male relatives.
Rather, the French added to their wretchedness by abusing and sexually misusing ladies workers.
Similar to Vietnamese men, ladies would have irrefutable reasons to object the rule of French.
