Role of the Parent in Education
Introduction
Parents are very important stakeholders in the education sector. By definition, a
stakeholder is an individual or a group that has an interest in seeing an organization or an
institution fulfilling the mission that it set out to fulfill at inception (Pugh, 1996).

Within the
education sector, there are various stakeholders who work together for its success. These include
the students, parents, school staff, taxpayers, the business community, state, the department of
education of the government of Ireland, and the school board. As stakeholders, the stake of
students in education is to achieve their personal success and prepare themselves for future
opportunity. On their part, parents are concerned with having pride, seeing the students succeed
and securing the opportunities they care about (Murphy, 2002).
