Robots and their Future Impact on Our Jobs
It is a mysterious force that goes by various names and is used for different things. Cyborg.
Artificial Intelligence. Technology. Automation. And the infamous, ROBOTS. These
robots or machines keep our inboxes clear of spam, help make web transactions, fly our
planes, and may eventually drive our cars for us. Many jobs in the future will require a
human workforce, but the more important jobs such as medicine, automotive industry, and
the most at high-risk logistics may slowly develop more efficient technologies for
completing tasks faster and more accurate than humans.
Humans have been practicing medicine in one way or another for over a million years
(Nordqvist). All of our recent studies have come from ancient civilizations such as the
Romans, Greek, Egyptian, and through these we have discovered new ways of medicating
and helping patients through the use of machines (Nordqvist). The robots have arrived.
Whether we are talking about the da Vinci Surgical System which has done over 20,000
operations or nanobots that swim through our bloodstream scraping plaque from our
arteries (Kotler). These technologies will only continue to arise and do many more
amazing things in the healthcare industry, such as the service robots that will be entering
early next year, doing everything from getting dirty laundry to distributing medication to
the patients (Kotler). Now seeing that these robots can do three times the work of a human
for a lower price, we have no doubt that they will be spreading quickly as well.
