Who was Solomon Northup?
1. In 1841, Solomon lived in Sarasota Springs, New York
with his wife Anne Hampton and his 3 children. It was a
life changing decision as Solomon and his family were
so happy. Sarasota Springs was the complete opposite of
Rhode Island. It was a small and chill town just like
Minerva, the place he was born.
2. The legal status of Solomon’s father changed over time
from him being able to do nothing but serve his owner as
a slave, to being able to do what he wants as a freeman.
This is because his owner Northup died. With the death
of his owner came his freedom. He then took the
surname of Northup and started life as a farmer.
3. Solomon’s family situation was amazing! He had a
happy family and was living in the best possible place.
They had nothing to worry about and they got to see
their family every once in a while. They couldn’t be any
happier.
4. I think Solomon and his family were living their best
life. The only challenges I believe they would’ve had
were minor. Things like racism and money.
