Racism: An Inevitable Issue
Racism refers to hatred or intolerance of other races which have completely different skin
colors such as black and brown. Unfortunately, racism has been unavoidable and ubiquitous in
societies for centuries. In particular, the United States which is known as the most ethnically
diverse country has been responsible for pitiful things in history due to racism. Moreover, racism
frequently leads to conflicts between people, and it has occurred in various places. However,
Politically, Emancipation Proclamation was signed by Lincoln in 1863, and after Obama, who is
an African-American, was elected as a president, most of Americans are beginning to believe that
racism has gradually vanished. Although the United States has been trying to stamp out racism
for a long time, racial discrimination against blacks, Hispanics, and immigrants still remains a
significant issue and is crucial in country where racial diversity exists.
.
To begin with, during the 1900s, black African Americans often experienced racism and
didn’t have the same rights as the white. Although Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who was an
African- American clergyman, peace activist, has not only tried to overcome unjust
discrimination against blacks, but also been involved with the human rights movement
throughout his entire lifetime, prejudices that blacks have violent behaviors or are impolite
against blacks didn’t disappear easily. According to Carroll Doherty’s article, “For African
Americans Discrimination is not dead.” Doherty also notes that “Discrimination and unfairness

remain a part of life for African Americans in this country.” Although most of people in U.S. are
worried about the degree of seriousness of racism these days, they cannot carefully control those
things because it is subconscious. For example, during the operation, Alton Sterling, who sold
CD on the street, was killed by police without any reason on last July in Dallas. Also, Philando
Castile, who was in the car with girl friend and her daughter, was killed by police the moment
Castile was taking his purse out of his pocket. Even though there is nothing wrong with them,
unfortunately, unarmed and innocent two black people had to leave their family due to prejudice
against blacks. Of course, it is not easy to eliminate bias of blacks; however, we should treat
them in a fair and objective manner.
