Reaction Paper
Reading and watching reports and documentaries about the social and environmental
responsibility initiatives of Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC) is truly inspirational and
downright motivating. What touched me to the core is the company’s sincere value for its people.
“…the jewels of Rio Tuba are first of all its people”. Upon learning that there are still huge
companies like RTNMC who genuinely care and prioritize its people, the communities, and the
environment made me restore my faith in humanity and made me feel hopeful that this world
can indeed be a better place to live in.
Before learning about the RTNMC and its CSR, I thought it was ironic how a mining
company which we all know is destructive of the environment can be a model and standard of
sustainability and social and environmental responsibility. But through their commitment to
operate in a sustainable manner, protecting the environment, ensuring the safety and well-being
of their workers and stakeholders, prioritizing its people, and nurturing active communities, they
have proven that responsible mining is possible and that they truly deserve the recognitions and
awards they have received over the years.
RTNMC’s CSR is highly commendable for they have covered up almost every aspect of
societal and environmental needs consciously from empowering communities through different
