The EU’s Foundation Perspective
The European Union is set up with the aim of ending the frequent and bloody wars between
neighbors, which culminated in the Second World War. As of 1950, the European Coal and
Steel Community begins to unite European countries economically and politically in order to
secure lasting peace. The crucial aim in the foundation of EU is not solely to create a union to
compete with the US, but to complete a peaceful, united and prosperous Europe.
In this regard, it is believed that European Union is a common home that Europe’s
neighboring countries have united around common norms, principles and values.
Development of democracy and human rights, free media and freedom of speech and
establishment of modern life standards in every field are among the most fundamental
dynamics of EU policy.
