Brent Staples “Just Walk on By: Black Men and Public Space” is an essay that
demonstrations Staples personal struggles as a black man in America. Staples shares his
distressing reality of being feared by the people who do not know him, the precautions he took to
make himself less threating and reflects on the black men who did not fare-well. Furthermore, he
elucidates that fear is at the root of negative treatment.
