Throwback to Cooking
In Rachel Jones’ editorial, “Homemade is The Organic”, Jones’ persuades her readers that
cooking homemade meals is no longer something that happened 30 years ago. Instead, Jones’
argues that with the rise of new social Medias and the potential of recognition, people are
beginning to start cooking homemade meals again. She attempts to persuade her readers using an
appeal to the brain with the use of stories and by giving examples of how celebrities are
beginning to cook on television more. She has an appeal to the heart by getting people to think
about the possibility of happiness and excitement. Jones’ also has a “trust me” factor by the
telling of anecdotes of her with her significant other while sitting around a table with their
friends.
Jones’ appeals to the readers brain by saying that homemade cooking is coming back into
the mainstream because young adults today are watching T.V. shows such as “Celebrity Chef”.
People are influenced by famous people and by people they look up to. Therefore, these young
adults feel like that because the people they look up to are showing new ways of cooking, that
they need to be like these celebrities.
Jones’ says in her article that, “The resurgence of the homemade movement could
probably be traced to a variety of cultural movements… the increasing popularity of food
TV and the rise of the celebrity chef…”
This explanation by Jones’ shows us why young adults are now starting to cook more homemade
meals. They want to be like the people they look up to.
This being said, I also believe that because more and more celebrities are appearing on
the “Food Network”, more and more people think that they can become famous as well. When

viewers of the show “Celebrity Chef”, or any other Food network show, see people getting
famous because of their homemade cooking, they think that they can also become famous. For
most people, getting famous off of cooking won’t happen however; people still want to try
because they believe they will be happier when they are famous. They are willing to attempt to
come up with a new recipe that has never been used before so that they can display it to the
world and hopefully have a chance to be on a food cooking show and be “famous”. This drive to
be famous is very logical
