Throughput Analysis - The Goal: A Process of Ongoing Improvement:
A bottleneck resource is any element that prevents the goal to be achieved. In this particular
scenario I will assume that the goal of any business is to make money. For this to happen it must
ensure that its objectives are met, i.e. it is able to fulfill the requirements to enable money to flow
in to the company. For instance, let’s say, I own a corporation which deals with building plastic
products. To make money as a business owner, I must ensure I get the output (plastic products e.g.
utensils) out to the market on time. This essentially equates to the concept of throughput, which is
a rate at which a company’s goal is achieved. The goal is anything the company is ultimately
aiming for as an overall organization. In regard to the bottleneck resource capacity, I can think
four other aspects that may help in increasing the throughput without actually expanding the
capacity of the bottleneck.
