Ethics and Responsible Management- Learning Paper
Ethics and Responsible Management is a key parameter to evaluate issues in business context. As
it very important to understand how ethical standards and their related codes are enforced in
organization. It is very important to thrive in current business scenarios for any manger and
industry as without it you can’t succeed. Following learnings I had acquired the course :
Learning 1: Trolley Case
The ethical dilemma in this case was not to find solution but to know what is people perception
and mindset by changing the scenarios of the situation. As fortunately I am present near the track
I would pull the lever and divert the train towards one kid and save life of 5. I will do so because
I think it’s the logical approach as my intension is to save more life’s as it forces me to choose
when both choices are not good which action of mine serves the purpose i.e. to save more life’s.
This concept is known as Utilitarianism which believes the best policy is how we can do good for
a large number of people as this gave them more utility.
In another scenario alternate track is replaced by a fat person. Should I push him as with its weight
and build his body can help to save the life of five. Though utilitarian’s view remains similar. But
my ethics tells me there is a is a difference between saving lives and taking the life of another
person by intentional killing. As it morally as well as ethically incorrect that to save more lives
take the life of one innocent person as doing murder is always wrong.
