Executive summary
This report is about the outside organizations survey the dairy giant Fonterra
cooperative. Every big company in this planet has their own ways to feedback
the society. And every company wants them to have a great reputation and a
good company image. So Fonterra also did a lot to raise the brand image. This
report introduces the responsibilities that Fonterra should take and how they
react about those issues. It mainly takes three common responsibilities for most
company which is the responsibility to the society, the responsibility to
environment and the responsibility to consumer. All the media has some
di’erent comment about what Fonterra did and what them about to do.
Fonterra is the biggest company in New Zealand and people expect more from
it.
Introduction
This is a report about how the Fonterra cooperation’s business activities are
viewed by others organizations. At 2001, Fonterra o.cially formed to be a
company that represents about 95% per cent of New Zealand’s dairy farmers.
Now as Fonterra is the biggest company in New Zealand, it has a lot of
responsibilities beside only making money. ‘With great power comes great
responsibility ‘(Stan lee, 1962). So people are expecting Fonterra to do more
things than an ordinary company does. This article will introduce several
di’erent sides that Fonterra is focusing to make the world change. That
includes responsibility of society, responsibility to the environment and
responsibility to consumers. Responsibility to society is including many di’erent
ways that the government, local communities and even small families are in a
part of it. Feedback to the society is not just about giving money to the facilities,
it is about doing something that really matters. Nowadays, all big companies
are valued to protect the environment, Fonterra is a dairy company and its main
product which is milk was much related to the environment. So, Fonterra has a
8ne environment policy for the sustainability development. As a dairy company,
the most important thing is the quality and it is the basic responsibility to the
consumers whose satisfaction is directly infects the development of the
company. With knowing how the outside organizations judge Fonterra could
help Fonterra to adjust the operations of the company and improving the
business strategy.

To be a caring company
Fonterra is the biggest company in New Zealand. It had 19.77B revenue in 2012(Fonterra Annual
Report). When a company is big enough to be the backbone of a country, people who live in New
Zealand certainly wants more from the company other than good quality about products and the
reasonable price. People want to see the good side of the company. As everyone expected, Fonterra
starts to give free milk to school from 19 March 2012. (Dairy Industries Interna.onal, 2012). Fonterra
aims to improve the health of New Zealand children with a new program that providing free milk to
more than 10000 kiwi children in the primary school. (Dairy Industries Interna.onal, 2012). About
350000 primary school children and over 2000 primary school would take the advantage from this
project. (FMCG, 2013). That is a great step to feedback the society. At 1937-67 the New Zealand
government had a similar project about provide milk to school. But now, Fonterra not only restarted
the project and also provide refrigerators to 112 schools for chilled milk. (Dairy Industries
Interna.onal, 2012). A research conducted by the University of Auckland has shown that children’s
milk consump.on has signi9cantly increased since the project began. (FMCG, 2013). ‘We know that
getting Kiwi drinking more milk is not an overnight job but we are committed to helping to improve
the health of our kids.’ Said by Theo Spierings the chief execu.ve of Fonterra. (FMCG, 2013). Not only
domes.c contribute, Fonterra also has co-found a charity project named the Fonterra Rural
Maternity and infant Healthcare Community Program in China. And Fonterra donated $5million to
the founda.on over 5 years to provide medical care; the goal is to improve the health of women and
children. (Dairy Industries Interna.onal, 2008).
