Response to popular article “TPM is most difficult of all lean tools to implement”

The author considers that of the Lean Manufacturing Tools Total Productive Maintenance
is the most difficult to implement because of the amount of culture change required. In his article,
Rubrich states that “A TPM implementation requires the greatest amount of culture change”. Even
though TPM implementations has a reward and impact for the company and the maintenance
department, its implementation requires quite an effort from the organization. The TPM
methodology, which is aimed to achieve zero defects, zero accident, and zero breakdowns, consists
in the employees’ empowerment to ensure the equipment efficiency and reliability through
autonomous and planned maintenance activities (Ahuja & Khamba, 2008). The obstacles in TPM
