Imitation in Infancy
Imitation in Infancy is a cross-sectional experiment working with infants and their
primary care-giving parent. The study has the parent repeat 4 different behaviors for as long as 3
minutes. The parents are asked to encourage their child to repeat the action. The researchers
were trying to discover when and how the capacity to imitate develops. They also wanted to
know what kinds of behaviors infants match first and do sounds play a role in how the infant
performs a task they observed. Their main measurement was the portion of infants in each age
group who matched each behavior.
The study included 162 infants and their primary care-giving parent. The researchers
only used even number months ranging from 6-months to 20-months. The median age of the
infants is 12.93 months. In ages 6-months and 10-months there were 21 infants in each group
