Research Paper: Abortion
Everyone in this world was created with a God-given purpose in mind and we were all
created equally and beautifully in God’s vision for what He wanted for this world. In this
country, within the United States, and in some places around the world today, the topic of
abortion is and remains to be a heavy topic of discussion and lives to be a huge ethical and moral
issue. Abortion has been one of the course of action that human beings are taking in order to “get
rid of” unintended or undesirable pregnancies due to medical, social, moral, and ethical issues
that may follow particular pregnancy conditions. However, the ethical and moral right of an
individual to receive an abortion has been widely debated throughout many decades (Gensler).
Gensler, along with many pro-choice advocates, believed that allowing woman to make the
choice of having an abortion and doing whatever with her body that she pleases, relates to
positive gender equality. Unfortunately, the issue of abortion can hardly have a single line of
argument due to the fact that some pregnancies may result from abuse and violent behavior
against women (Pallitto, Garcia-Moreno and Jansen). However, according to the legacy of ethics
of Emanuel Kant (Gensler) and modern insights in the issue (McCurdy) abortion is an immoral
act that has to be reconsidered every time when the issue evolves.
The idea of abortion is a topic close to my heart because when I was at the young age of 7
years old, I lost a little sister prematurely at two months of age. How could anyone possibly
entertain the thought of “terminating” or killing a human who is so defenseless and innocent in

nature, regardless of the situation at hand? Even though a fetus is not yet at the developmental
stage of having any sort of vocal capabilities while in the womb in order to defend its case of
life, the fetus interacts with the mother through sound, nutrition, vibrations, and much more
while inside the mother’s womb. Anything at all that the mother experiences or goes through, the
baby experiences it right along with her. Both the fetus and the mother, beginning at the point of
conception, become one with each other. The womb acts and performs as a 9-month vacation
home for a young baby who was beautifully created by a wonderfully forgiving and loving God.
According to the ideas of Emanuel Kant (Gensler), a life that is carried before its physical
separation from the mother’s body is innocent. This is probably the major argument that one can
agree to. In the bible verse Psalm 139:13-16, it says “For you created my inmost being: you knit
me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
