REAL SUBJECT: Finding a solution to the water pollution in Lake Okeechobee due
to fertilizer runoff from the sugar industry.

where responsible citizen input has been requested.
PERSONA: An educated, well-informed concerned citizen who has extensively
researched the problem.
PURPOSE: To propose a solution to reduce water pollution in Lake Okeechobee due
to fertilizer runoff from the sugar industry by examining and researching
the problem through the problem solving method.
THESIS: An effective solution to reduce water pollution in Lake Okeechobee due to
fertilizer runoff from the sugar industry must be found.

I. Water pollution in Lake Okeechobee occurs when there is fertilizer runoff from the sugar
industry.
A. It kills wild life.
B. It contaminates water.
C. It causes environmental damage.
II. Water pollution in Lake Okeechobee springs from the fertilizer runoff from the sugar
industry.
A. This problem has been going on since the 1960’s.
D. What has been causing the problem is the excessive fertilizer runoff from the
