The majority of my time in the social work field has been allocated to the child welfare system. I
have always maintained an uncanny ability to connect with children in a manner that is difficult to
explain. My previous employers noticed my ability to connect with kids from all walks of life and began
filling my caseload with SED children who scored a 140 and above on their CAFAS. Although most of my
vocation in social work has been as a worker in the child welfare system, my interests in social work
expands far beyond this. Recently, I was asked to represent Fort Hays State University on the board for
the Kansas School Social Work Association (KSSW.)
My practicum is currently being completed at the Ellis County Learning Center. My efforts at my
practicum, in conjunction with serving on the board for KSSWA, has identified an area of social work
that I am honored to be a small part of: school social workers. My interest in school social work was
ignited at a time when a national pandemic caused a large portion of America’s youth to begin receiving
