I participated in Spanish game hour on Tuesday, March the third; I played matching and board
games with my partner for one hour. Professor Morris and another professor led the activity by instructing
us in the functions and rules of the games. There were other students from varying levels of Spanish
classes, but I had little interaction with them during the game hour. I played games such as the boardgame
form of Hangman, matching games with descriptions of people, and word guessing games based on cards
with verbal descriptions.
I was surprised at some of the spanish vocabulary I have picked up this summer and was able to
identify in the setting of a board game. I think these games also helped me to learn new vocabulary in a
more entertaining way by practicing descriptions. These games not only functioned as a review of
previous chapters, vocab, and conjugation, but also helped me to acquire new vocabulary and improve my
conversational skills. These games functioned as a more interactive and entertaining form of review and
learning which helped to increase my understanding of the material we have covered thus far into the
course. The activity gave me a slight insight into hispanic culture by using games which may be played
by children in spanish-speaking homes. I learned more spanish vocabulary words by the use of cards and
English and thinking about forming words in the context and general rules of english.
