The Report on Benin

History:
Benin was once part of the medieval African Kingdom’s and its name back then was
Dahomey. In the 18th century Europeans arrived in this land the $rst ones were the Portuguese
and due to this they started trea&ng weapons for slaves and this ended in 1848 instead of the
trading in people they traded palm oil. The year 1889 the war between Abomey and Porto-Novo
broke out. In 1892 France toke Dahomey as a territory and they protected it. Later on it became
part of France in 1904. Dahomey was named Republic of Dahomey on August 1, 1960 and it
gained its independence from France in 1975 and it became Benin.
Economic situa&ons:
The economy of Benin during the 1980’s was about to bring the whole country down,
the agriculture and oil were in a low produc&vity. Due to this the government and the people
