As human beings we are always going to be faced with ethical decisions that we have to
make in our lives, it’s a given. There are times in our personal lives, our professional lives, or
even our intrapersonal lives that we are going to have to make an ethical decision: With that
being said there are many things to consider when making these ethical decisions and it’s
important to understand how our society is going to adjust to the decisions that we make, and
we develop from these decisions.
When considering development in the ethical decision making processes it is important
to understand that to this point in our lives we have been brought up with a certain belief
system, a certain set of morals and values; for some these may be more religious based and for
some they may be more social or culturally based. Either way they are going to remain constant
for the most part and they are going to affect our ethical decision making process. Religions are
always going to carry different viewpoints based on the religion that you believe in, we can see
that in the comparative religion chart, that view points on important ethical issues. For example
divorce, it says that divorce is not permitted unless abandonment occurs in the Catholic
religion, but then the Lutherans say that it’s a tragic situation but sometimes it’s the best
answer (Da’wah Skills, 2015). When talking about developing our religious aspect of making
ethical decisions we need to consider that not everyone is going to see eye to eye. It is
important to consider religion but at the same time also consider the situation that is taking
place. If you are part of the Catholic Faith for example and are part of a domestic violence
situation, to the point where it’s either remove yourself from the situation or be killed: it is
important to look at the situation at hand. It is important to consider what your religion says,
but also understand that God forgives all even if you do get divorced he is still going to love
you. If you die you may be leaving many people behind and it was a situation that you could
have gotten out of and had a different outcome. So religiously we need to consider all aspects
of the issue, and not just focus on what our religion says because sometimes that is not the best
answer, especially in our society today. For example we have the Catholic Pope who embraces
ethical issues that have at one time been an absolute disgrace to the Catholic Faith. He
embraces all sexuality, and does not discriminate because of same sex marriage or love. I think
again we need to remember times can change, the basis and history of religion will always be
the same, but our way of thinking can always change and we can make changes to make the
right ethical choices and decisions. This is the same for cultural and social aspects. It is
