SHAMANS VS. PRIESTS (?)
•Textbook focuses on a major division between shamans, who are religious
practitioners who receive their power directly from the spirit world
•Priests are full-time religious specialists associated with formalized religious
institutions (including Catholic priests, Jewish rabbis, Muslim imams, etc.)
•BUT, if you start to think about this division, there are many exceptions
•For example, pastors or other religious leaders who serve small or poor communities
may only work part-time as religious leaders and also hold another job
