ACM,whichstandsfortheAssociationforComputingMachinery,isthelargest
educationalandscientificcomputingassociation.Therearemanymoralstandardsthatthe
companyexpectsyoutoabideto.BelowarelistedtheCodeofEthicsforACM.
1.1Contributetosocietyandhumanwellbeing.ComputingprofessionalsinACMmust
makesuretheiractionsdonotnegativelyaffectsocietyaroundthem.Theymustrespecthuman
rightsandrespectallculturesoftheworld.
1.2Avoidharmtoothers.“Harm”meansmorethanjustphysicalcontact.Thisincludes
anythingfromanegativeoutlookonotherpeople,totheverywordspeoplesaytoothers.ACM
employeesareadvisedtohelpothersandnothurttheminanyaspectoflife.
1.3Behonestandtrustworthy.Withouttrust,ACMcouldnotfunctioninthecorrectway.
Honestyhelpsbuildrelationshipsandthereforebuildscompanies.WhenACMisbuiltonthe
foundationofhonesty,itisbeingbuiltonthebridgeofsuccess.
1.4Befairandtakeactionnottodiscriminate.Thereshouldbenodiscriminationonthe
basisofgender,race,age,religionordisability.ACMwillnottoleratethisbehaviorandthusit
willendinextermination.
1.5Honorpropertyrightsincludingcopyrightsandpatent.ACMemployeesshouldnot
violateanycopyrightsorviolateanytermsoflicenseagreements.Copiesofmovies,dvds,
music,shouldnotbecreated,onlywiththeproperauthorization.
1.6Givepropercreditforintellectualproperty.Computingprofessionalsshouldonlytake
creditfortheirownwork.Theyshouldnottakecreditforsomeoneelse’shardwork.
1.7Respecttheprivacyofothers.Donotviolatetheprivacyofothers.Computing
professionalsareexpectedtomaintainprivacyofprivatesfilesandinformation;theymust
protectit.Personalinformationshouldbekeptpersonal.
1.8Honorconfidentiality.ACMemployeesmustkeeptheirpromisesandstaytrueto
theirword.Theymustrespecttheconfidentialityofotheremployers,usersandclients.
