In the article, “Reforming Egypt in 140 Characters?” by Dennis Baron, Baron speaks of
revolutions spreading like wildfires across the world due to the internet and social media causing
technology to slightly change the course of history but also dealing with actions of the people. As
social media and the internet are a big cause in the spreading of protests and riots, it is the actions
of those involved who truly make the difference.
In the 1960s, four black college students made a revolutionary moment in history by
simply asking for a cup of coffee in a diner where they were not welcomed. These four college
students stayed at the diner everyday until closing time, proclaiming that they will be back the
next day continuously until their order was served. These sit-ins spread across town, and
eventually across the South within a month (Gladwell 312-314), without the help of social media
