Reflective paper on Charles’ Bleak House: Chapter 22 “Mr. Bucket”

Summary of findings
Our team analyzed a few paragraphs of Charles Dickens’ Bleak House. In the excerpt, there are
four paragraphs, and we discovered that Dickens uses HP to address the first two and the last
paragraph, it divides the action of the scene, and signals major changes in the story, scene and
character. Dickens adopts HP and past tense together in the third paragraph; to make a contrast
between two characters. In the last paragraph, Dickens change back to HP from past tense, which
encourages a close-up view of the action and produces a sense of unexpectedness for readers.
