I. Introduction
This book “I Believe: Exploring the Apostles’ Creed” was published in the United States
of America by InterVarsity Press, with permission from Universities and Colleges Christian
Fellowship, Leicester, England. It was first published in Great Britain in 1991 under the title
“Affirming the Faith”. The author Alister Edgar McGrath, born in 1953, was a theologist, priest,
intellectual historian, scientist, Christian apologist and public intellectual of Northern Ireland.
The Apostles’ Creed is trinitarian in structure with sections affirming belief in God the
Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. This book “I Believe: Exploring the Apostle’s
Creed” is a practical study of the Apostles Creed. It is a lighter read compared to many of his
other theological books, but it is not a book to take lightly. McGrath unpacks the content of the
