I believe that popular culture is the culture that originates from the people. Every
country/nation/state has something that it is known for. For example, India the country
where I am from is known for Bollywood, cricket and sex (population). America is known
for their way of life, their arrogance and their power. Each country’s image is projected
mainly by the majority groups in country, their socio economic standards and as always
mostly minorities do not get a major say, like in any other country with a large population
in most cases.
The best example of how popular culture affects the life of people could be seen in the
recent 2014 Indian elections. Mr. Modi who got elected in a record landslide victory can
thank his larger than life image created by him and his PR team, they created a superstar
just like one from a Bollywood movie. No doubt that the previous government was very
inefficient and their loss was inevitable but not a manner that it happened. The people in
India can be said are kind of similar to people in the States, in both countries the general
population is not well educated or rather are unaware of anything other than their
surroundings. I.E their country. They are mostly middle class and blame the government
for their social standard and are in a search of hero like in the movies and lately in both
countries it has all been about showmanship and both have been shifting to a more right
