Reflection Paper #2
My High School Basketball Team
One team that I was recently a part of was my high school basketball team. Although overall we
did not have a lot of talent, we exceeded expectations because we came together and worked well with
each other. We knew that since none of us were that much better than each other, we figured right
away it would be better in the long run if we focused on working together instead of depending on our
individual skills. Based solely on skill, we probably should not have even made the playoffs, but we
actually made it to the third round, upsetting two teams that were supposed to beat us.
Although at the beginning of the season many of us already knew each other, there were
several underclassmen that were new to the team. This was the initial step of team grouping, the
forming stage. There was a time where we had to figure out what each of them were good at and how
they fit in with the team. That was when we decided who worked best with each other and established
the different lineups.
Since there was not really a storming point, the next step we experienced was norming. It was
obvious that some people did not get along with other people on the team, but we made sure that that
did not come in the way of reaching our goals. We knew that we all loved playing basketball, and that in
order to perform our best, we had to compromise in some areas in order to get past our differences for
the good of the team.
