During these first few lectures I found it most interesting that there were cases in which
people could become physically ill despite any sound proof of origin. This type of somatic
symptom disorder usually involves the person experiencing neurological changes due to distress
occurring in daily life activities. Conversion disorder affects neurological conditions which
include paralysis, blindness or weakness. These physical changes have converted from anxiety
which has accumulated to such an extent that the body will reject the traumatic events by
shutting down the neurological system associated with the stressor. This phenomenon of
indirectly protecting oneself through neurological means goes to show how complex our bodies
function.
In the case of the women of Cambodia during the years of Pol Pots takeover, they
experienced so many traumatic experiences, most of which they saw with their eyes and felt
