I will never forget the memories that were made with my grandpa. Since I lost my father
when I was only four years old, my grandpa took on the father figure role in my life. He
did everything a father would do. He would take me to baseball games and monster truck
races, but the thing we did most was, fishing. My grandpa didn’t just take me places; he
was there for me emotionally. Whenever I had a problem, I knew I could always count on
him to make them seem unimportant. With every problem he helped me with, he taught me
a life lessons as well. Although I didn’t always acknowledge or appreciate those lessons, I
find myself thinking back on them constantly. There are so many precious memories that I
have with my grandpa, but the one that has stuck with me the most is a day at the lake.
It was a warm summer day and I wouldn’t stop bugging my grandpa about how bored I
was. After about an hour of me complaining, he decided he was going to take me to the
lake. Although I loved spending time with my grandpa, fishing wasn’t always fun. Despite
the fact that fishing wasn’t something I that I wanted to do, I was thrilled to get out of the
house. After we packed our poles and chairs, we were finally on our way. I remember the
car ride there because I always despised my grandpa’s car. It was a 1972 El Camino and
was always breaking down and the doors always jammed. I remember I would beg him to
let me paint his car with markers because it thought it was ugly. This car was red but the
paint was chipped in numerous spots and has a lot of rust. When we arrived at the lake, I
went to get out of the car and ended up shutting my fingers in the door. My grandpa rushed
over to open the door, only it wouldn’t open! He started to get annoyed because he would
hate it when I cried and finally got the door open. After he calmed me down and kissed by
owie, we started walking to “our spot.” This spot was back in the corner of the lake and
was surrounded with trees and rocks. I liked that spot because it reminded me of a jungle,
but my grandpa liked it because fish tend to stay around rocky areas as well as a spot with
