After successfully completing the VentureBlocks simulation, I learnt the method of customer
interaction, what kind of questions are acceptable to ask when trying to uncover the needs of the
public or target audience. Overall, I got the understanding that interviewing the public to identify
the headache problem or to create insights that include the need as well as the why of the public
will help in creating a potential business opportunity. Hence, this essay highlights my immediate
next steps in moving forward with this potential business opportunity I have discovered.
The first immediate step I would take would be to go back to the public and conduct more need-
finding interviews to better understand or validate what I early identified as the need or the
problem of the Nanu owners. I would observe Nanus and their owners to better understand their
needs. I would ask broad and open-ended questions instead of yes or no questions and make sure
I question, listen and probe instead of just jumping from question to question. In other words, I
will adopt the “peeling the onion” approach which will help me deal with every problem I
identify layer by layer. By taking this approach, I would be further developing my emphatic
skills which are very essential in finding out just what the target audience needs.
After successfully discovering a need that has a consistent pattern with most Nanu owners, I
would go back to the potential solutions I had earlier brainstormed to discover in the simulation I
had completed. The potential solution that stands out the most to me is what I would begin to
test. Again, I would conduct interviews with more Nanu owners and talk about the solution to
see how I can further improve or maybe even disapprove of the solution altogether. In this case
of the Nanu owners, my solution was to create foldable or easy to dismantle toys for the Nanus.
To test this solution more efficiently I would adopt the use of Mock-Up Prototypes or Lego
Prototypes so the target audience can feel and see what the ideal solution will look like. I will
pair this with a Feedback Interview that also adopts the use of open-ended questions so I can
figure out what the audience thinks of my product and if there is actually value for the user
whilst using this product, through this I hope to also analyze the results I get and improve my
product for the better.
