Growing Through Service-Learning at Kids Count

What happened and what did I do?
I am currently completing my service learning at Kids Count at the Rawlings location. I
attend twice a week for tutoring hour, homework time and play time and am placed with a group
of kids led by one of the staff members. This semester I have gotten to work 8-10 year olds, as
opposed to 6-7 year olds I worked with last semester. I have a designated pair of students that I
work with on-on-one for tutoring hour. Kids Count has recently adopted the Winning Reading
Boost curriculum and are really focused on reinforcing reading skills so for the tutoring hour we
work through a workbook (there are 4 they need to get through total) and make sure the kids are
mastering the skills covered in those pages and be a source for any questions they may have. I
have to work hard each week to use fun strategies to keep the kids engaged and focused such as
