1. What is Reed’s position in the Columbus market?
Reed is one of the market leaders with 14% market share in Columbus area. With about
2 millions in population, Columbus metro area was the third largest in Ohio. Its 2010
median household income was $52,000, which was 11.6% higher than state average and
slightly higher than national average. In addition, the unemployment rate, as of
December 2010, was 8.5% which was lower than 9.8% national rate. Overall, this is an
ideal market, which created an intense competition among grocery retailers. As a market
leader, Reed is known for high quality, superb customer service, but higher price. Reed’s
direct competitors include Delfina (which is the most like Reed), Galaxy and TopVal,
Whole Foods Market, Dollar stores, supercenters (Walmart) and warehouse stores
