Recommendation to a company for more training for International Assignees
Dowling, Festing & Engle (2008) reports that training aims to improve employees’
current work skills, as such the role of training is important in supporting expatriate adjustments
and on assignment performance. Improved employees work skills will lead to a decrease in the
number of failed assignments and early return as experienced by Starr Oils. A lack of sufficient
training has lessens the effectiveness of the tasks of our expatriates being completed. As such
management needs to ensure the necessary conditions and training for these expatriates are
provided in order for the assignment to be successful.
Based on the International Human resource problems identified throughout this paper and
the causes, it is recommended that we begin a formal pre-departure training program to prepare
expatriate and accompanying family members for the international assignments. This will be
