The research “The Impact of Plastic Bags on the Environment: A field survey of the City of
Sana’a and the surrounding area, Yemen” was posted on November 2014 by Maher Almaqtari on
Research Public Journals(www.researchpublic.com). Through the paper, the authors show the
situation of the plastic pollution in Yemen and what the effects of this issue. This research has
both the detailed analysis and knowledge about the terms included in the research.
The authors held a survey that proves the alarming situation of plastic pollution in Yemen. The
issue started from the over-consumption of the residents because plastic is cheap, lightweight, easy
availability and convenience. Plastic bags can see most in the markets of Qat. The local
consumption of plastic bags has increased considerably which leads to the fact that factories
cannot fulfill enough the need, so they need to import from another place. The pollution affects
indirectly and directly on the life of marine animals. There has been some strategies and policies
that reduce or ban the production and consumption of plastic bags. In the end, the authors also
give some other solutions which can help to improve the situation such as replacing plastic by
biodegradable materials, holding more campaign, providing alternatives….
As the a professor at Sana University in Yemen and working in the Department of Chemistry,
Maher Almaqtari, one of the authors,showed in his paper not only the basic information about the
situation of the horrible pollution in Yemen but he also gives the academic knowledge of isolated
