How did you score on the “Reading the Mind in the Eyes” section?
My score was 21, and the average score is 22.28. I figured I’d score low because some of the words in
there were a little bit hard to understand, and there was very limited time to google these to
understand the definition.
What does your score mean to you?
I’m mad haha! I always pride myself in understanding body language and facial expressions, so to score
LOWER than average is ugh!! Again, I have no clue if it is because I didn’t quit understand all the word
options, or if that score does actually affect my ability to read others. Hopefully it’s the first option. But,
assuming the score actually represents my ability to read people that would mean that I’m somewhat
terrible at reading other people. If that would be the case than I feel like I need to be more observant
and pay more attention to people. Assuming these are the accurate score of my ability, this quiz and
assignment is yet a reminder of how important communication is. We might think that we know
someone, or how they feel, but do we really know if we don’t ask? Someone that might look confused to
me, might look upset to someone else. Assuming that everyone has the same reaction and/or face
expression is a very dangerous thing. And knowing if it’s OK to ask questions can be just as daring as
assuming we can read their face.
Why do you think these differences exist?
We all grew up differently, and our DNA and genes literally never has the same pattern, and if it does,
our environment and the people and situations surrounding us are different. With that said, we are
going to observe and pick up different things in people. Like I mentioned above, someone who might
look confused to me, might look upset to one of my fellow classmates. But this also makes me think, if
we’re all so different, and we react differently, how reliable is this quiz? Maybe it’s not even about if
we’re able to read others, but who just happens to be right about that specific situation?
