Reading Philosophy
Children first learn how to read by hearing sounds and learning all the letters in the
alphabet; this is called phonics. Phonics is a method of teaching how to read by correlating
sounds with letters or groups of letters in an alphabetic writing system. When children have
linked together the phonemes and can identify the letters and the sounds of the letters, they can
then start to blend those letters and sounds together. When learning the sounds and letters the
children must first learn how to understand the difference between different letters and their
