1. What are the potential advantages of a leadership mentorship program over a
traditional, group-based training program (p. 410)? (1 point)
There are three significant advantages to a leadership mentorship program over a traditional
group-based program. The first advantage is the cost savings. Because there is a mentor, there is
no need for additional resources such as trainers, special classes, facilities and other such
resources. The second advantage is that not only will mentors be developing others; they will
also be developing themselves making them better prepared to lead their own organizations. The
third advantage is that the knowledge they gain through a mentorship will be in real context that
will make it easier for them to apply that knowledge themselves.
2. What is self-efficacy and why is it important to leadership development? (1 point)
Self-efficacy as “one aspect of leaders’ self-construal of their capabilities to lead, and we suggest
that mentorship serves as a pathway to elucidate that construal.” It is important because it
encourages the protege to attempt the acts associated with leadership that can help establish their
identity as a leader.
3. How might mentoring influence leader efficacy? The article explains four ways that this
