Music is worldwide attraction. It is very rare for somebody to not listen to music. There
are many people around the world that listen to music of many different genres. Each person has
different interest in music but we all listen to it. One widely spread genre is rap and hip hop. The
audience of rap and hip-hop music has grown tremendously over the years. When rap and hip
hop got big there was originality, there was meaning to the words they were speaking and a point
to get across. It wasn’t filled with violence and drugs influencing our younger generations like it
is today. Over the past few years, the quality of rap and hip-hop music has dropped
tremendously.
Music is one of the hardest things to make an argument about. What kind of music you
like is based from your opinion so it is hard to prove that something is better or worse when
everyone has different likes and dislikes. Rap and hip-hop is almost the most widely listened to
today. According to the Nielsen Music report, hip-hop is taking up a whopping 25.1% of music
consumption is America. This does not seem like a lot but if you consider all the people and the
23% in rock music being surpassed, it is a lot of people. The most popular genre of music in the
world should not be changing like it is. People around the world should be listening to quality
music and we do not have the quality music in today’s society like we use to have.
Originality is rare anymore. Many of the rap song coming out are all the same general
ideas. It seems like it is all the same anymore. People like different. Listening to newer rap songs

is like having a playlist with two songs on repeat. You don’t get much variety. Most songs start
out with smoking weed. Then comes the guns. Then comes the girl or the hoe. In Young Dolph’s
song “Gelato,” he says “I got gelato in the air. I got money everywhere. This bitch blowing up
my cell broke her heart and I don’t care.” He later said, “I got pistols everywhere.” Gelato is a
kind of weed that he is smoking and his girl that he hurt is calling him and he doesn’t care. He
also has a pistol for his “haters.” This is a general theme for many songs today. Very similar to
this Migos has a lot of songs like this. In Migos’ song “Bad and Boujee,” he said
“Smokin‘ on cookie in the hotbox. Fuckin’ on your bitch she a thot, thot, thot. Cookin’ up dope in
the crockpot. We came from nothin’ to somethin’ nigga, don’t trust nobody, grip the trigger.” This
has the same general concept of smoking weed. Then he has sex with someone’s girlfriend and
on top of that he also has a gun for the people he doesn’t trust. Most rap songs today have this
