Racial Rivalries Transcend Time
As times and technology change, some social issues have shied in scope but have never fully
been eradicated from society. The subject of racial di erences and intolerance in the United States is one
of the societal issues that has found a way of sticking around through decades. I would like to explain a
recent event that emphasizes this point. The New York Times published an article on 16 August 2014 by
Tanzina Vega and John Eligon titled “Deep Tensions Rise to Surface Aer Ferguson Shooting. This article
describes how the town of Ferguson, MO has become a place of racial unrest between blacks and whites
following the shooting of a black man named Michael Brown. The shooting of Michael Brown occurred
on August 9, 2014, in Ferguson, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis. Brown, a young black man, was fatally
