Racial Rivalries Transcend Time
As times and technology change, some social issues have shied in scope but have never fully
been eradicated from society. The subject of racial di erences and intolerance in the United States is one
of the societal issues that has found a way of sticking around through decades. I would like to explain a
recent event that emphasizes this point. The New York Times published an article on 16 August 2014 by
Tanzina Vega and John Eligon titled “Deep Tensions Rise to Surface Aer Ferguson Shooting”. This article
describes how the town of Ferguson, MO has become a place of racial unrest between blacks and whites
following the shooting of a black man named Michael Brown. The shooting of Michael Brown occurred
on August 9, 2014, in Ferguson, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis. Brown, a young black man, was fatally
