Disparity is the proportion of a racial/ethnic group within the control of the system is greater
than the proportion of such groups in the general population. racial disparity results from differential
treatment by the criminal justice system of similarly situated people based on race. In some instances,
this may involve overt racial bias, and in others it may reflect the influence of factors that are only
indirectly associated with race. Disparity refers to a difference that may or may not be related to
discrimination. Discrimination is the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or
things, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex. Discrimination doesn’t only with police officer, but

treatment of groups without reference to an individual behavior or qualifications.
Race is a physical characteristic that help distinguish people from each other. Ethnicity focus on
cultural, nationality, region, and language. For example, A black and white male can be different race,
but can be from the same place and raised to have the same beliefs. Such as believing in Christian is a

see people as different color and have program ourselves to believe we’re different. The dominant
group in society imposed the boundaries of group membership by defining race in terms of biology.
W.E.B. Du Bois questioned why in virtue of being white, does a person have certain powers. The answer
was not the color of a person skin, but it’s the structure of society in which they live in. So, when
scientist speaks about race construct I think they mean it more of an idea that people think white should
have more power than blacks, because nothing can physically give someone more power than someone.
