The ideas of race and the practice of racism have changed throughout the centuries by
starting out as an idea that are different races to it being put to practice in the form of racism. The
late 17th century in France King Louis XIV released a set of “rules(Code Noir)” to follow for all
the people involved in the slave industry. Race and racism did not always go together in terms
of their practices, in the 17th century your race did not determine your freedom. Only as you got
into the 18th century did this change all of a sudden, the color of your skin and where you came
from decided your freedom. This divide only got worse as we move into the late 18th and early
19th centuries with the practice of eugenics to speed up natural selection by setting up laws and
programs like marriage and immigration laws, sterilization and even eventually extermination.
The Code Noir which translates to the black code was a set of rules that King Louis the
XIV had made up to guide the slave situation in the French colonies in the Americas. These rules
though where not just for the slaves but the slave owners, they protected the slaves from harsh
