Assignments
Syllabus Quiz
Take the Syllabus Quiz first to insure that you understand the course requirements and have successfully enabled
Proctorio. The Syllabus Quiz consists of five (5) questions and is worth two (2) points. You may take the quiz
multiple times until September 1. Before beginning the quiz, find a quiet area free from interruptions, verify your
webcam and microphone are working and remove books and notes from the immediate area. When the quiz
begins, hold your USFSP ID card to the camera so that I can see the photo and number.
Introduction Discussion Forum/First Day Attendance
For the USF first day attendance requirement, please introduce yourself to the class in the designated discussion
forum on Canvas. This Introduction Discussion Forum will be worth up to three (3) points to be calculated in your
final course grade. To earn the full three (3) points, you will need to present all of the information requested and
the presentation must be free of grammatical and spelling errors. A student who has not completed the Introduction
assignment by Thursday August 29 at 11:59 pm ET will be dropped from the class as the student has not met the
requirements of the first day attendance policy.
Quizzes
Eight (8) online quizzes consisting of ten multiple-choice questions are scheduled. Quizzes are open for one week,
from Monday until Sunday. If a student misses a quiz for any reason, a score of zero will be recorded. There will be
no makeups for any reason. Questions are randomly generated, and a maximum time of 10 minutes is allotted for the
quiz. Quizzes are closed book and closed notes and you must use Proctorio or your attempt is scored a zero. Two
attempts are allowed. A student not satisfied with the first attempt may take the quiz a second time. After the window
closes, the quiz will no longer be available.
Discussions
The course consists of two (2) discussion assignments. Discussions span two (2) weeks. For each assignment,
students select two (2) questions found in the discussion area and submit the initial answer by the due date.
Students will substantively respond to a minimum of three classmates within seven (7) days after the due date of the
initial post. Discussion answers submitted late will receive a deduction of 2.5 pts per day late.

Research Project
Select a legal topic covered during the course. Using the guidelines provided in Canvas, conduct research
and write a paper that includes discussion of related court cases, journal articles and relevant laws.
Students have the option of completing the paper alone or in groups of two. Students must inform the
instructor by the end of Week 1 if they would like to work in groups. Late submissions will be penalized
at 2.5 pts per day.
Teach the Class Online
Each student will prepare a short 5 to 10-minute video to teach the class about one of the topics covered in
class. Students may use the topic covered in the research paper. The project is designed to summarize
what has been learned in class. The project may also help students who plan to take Exam 3 prepare for
the exam. The video is worth 25 points. Students may earn 5 pts of extra credit by providing substantive
feedback on the presentations of at least two students.
Exams
Three 90-minute exams are scheduled; however, only the two highest scores will be counted. Since the lowest
grade is dropped, no makeup exams will be given.
Exams consist of 75 true/false and multiple-choice questions. A breakout of questions by chapter will be posted in
Canvas prior to the exam. The final exam is comprehensive with approximately 50% new material and 50%
previously tested material.
Exams open at 6:00 a.m. and close at 11:59 p.m. ET on the scheduled date. Students have ninety minutes to
complete the exam. Questions not answered within the time limit will be marked incorrect. There is only one
attempt for each exam and the questions will be shown one at a time. Once a question is answered, you will have
the ability to go back to that question.
