Galaxies are classified into 3 main categories based on their shape: disk, elliptical,
and irregular. In addition to shape, galaxies also come in many different sizes and
compositions. The shape of a galaxy is developed by the initial stress and conditions by
which it is formed. Meaning that factors such as rotation, mass, gas clouds, gravity of
nearby galaxies and its own gravity affect its formation.
