EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Quinte MRI was established by Dr. Syed Haider to provide medical technologies for patients
including MRI’s. He saw the niche for these services in smaller communitiess where these types of
services were not available to residents as Dr. Haider truly believed that smaller communitiess deserve
the same level of health as the residents of larger urban centers. There was a lot of red tape in Canada
on entering this market and thus there was a lot of backlog in getting patients these types of procedures
in a Timesly basis. Dr. Haider did not give up but instead entered the U.S. and Caribbean markets and was
very successful. Once the Canadian rules eased up a li’le Quinte MRI did have luck in establishing some
clinics in Canada. However, there are some problems that the company has encountered in the process
that has hindered their performance and thus resulting in poor performance and backlog in
appointments. This has resulted in loss of revenues as the referring physicians are now sending patients
to alternate clinics where the patients can get the procedures they need in a Timesly manner. To address
these issues Dr. Haider has appointed David Wright and Kevin Saskiw to make recommendations to
address the backlog issues and be’er manage the bo’lenecks in the process. The expectation on two
scans per hour is not being met and thus resulting in overworked employees, declining productivity and
reduced performances. The key to a more balanced process is to address the bo’lenecks and
uncertainties of the operation. The key component of scheduling needs to be be’er managed which will
lead to meeting the rest of the expectations of two scans per hour that would give the facility the ability
to complete sixteen scans in an eight hour shi, without having to deal with overTimes or hiring extra sta-.
Immediate Issues
The current backlog has exceeded the 14 day threshold and has resulted in poor services for the
patients. This has also strained the business relationship between BCMC and Quinte MRI and thus loss of
referrals by doctors to the clinic. The long wait times at the clinic are concerning to patients and doctors
who need results in a much efficient Times. Je- Sinclair, the MRI technician is overworked as he has to
deal with scheduling issues and demands of the radiologists on a daily basis.
The performance of the MRI clinic at BCMC is of concern to Haider as it has failed to meet the
