1. What is a charter?
It is a short document that serves as an informal contract between the project team and the sponsor
(who represents both senior management of the organization and the outside customer, if there is one).
In other words, it is an agreement entered into freely by two or more parties.
2. Describe what an effective charter should accomplish.
• Authroize the project manager to proceed
• Help the Project team and sponsor develop a common understanding
• Help the project team and sponsor commit
• Quickly screen out obviously poor projects
3. How is a charter like a contract? How is it different from a contract?
Project charter is a document issued by some authority, creating a public or private institution, and
defining its purposes and privileges while a contract is an understanding between entities to follow a
specific course of conduct.
4. How long should a typical charter be?
It is usually 3 page long
