Assignment #4 ~ Quality Management
Deming: Deming’s philosophy on quality management is based on that organizations should
focus on quality as the most important thing for their business. When focusing on costs,
revenue, volume of sales…etc. quality will eventually fall. For Deming, it is important to view the
manufacturing process as a seamless whole, practice constant improvement, reduce costs, and
insuring the best quality for the end product.
Juran: Juran’s philosophy on quality management is based on importance of the human
dimension of quality management. For Juran, it is important to educate and train
managers/higher–ups in the company since the root cause of quality issues are due to human
relation problems and resistance to change.
Crosby: Crosby’s philosophy on quality management is based on the concept of zero defects.
For Crosby, it is of the utmost importance to focus on doing things right the first time, and he
defined quality as full and perfect conformance to the customer’s requirements.
Compare/Contrast: While all of these important figureheads agree that quality is the most
important thing for an organization to maintain they all approach it differently. Deming’s view is
fairly straightforward: focus on quality and reducing costs and everything else will fall into place.
Juran’s view deems the human dimension of quality management as the most important thing: if
the employees/manager’s know the standards of the corporation than it will be successful.
Crosby’s view is striving for perfection in all aspects of quality management, yet this “perfection”
is purely based on the conformance of the customer’s requirements. Therefore, Crosby’s
