I have researched four different jobs in the field of public relations that
I would be interested in pursuing in the future. Although my main dream is to
work as a special events planner, I have already done my research into that
field and it is important for me to know what jobs in public relations I would
be interested if I do decide to switch over. I have found jobs that interest me
in the field of education PR, medical PR, non-profit PR, and entertainment PR.
Medical PR
Growing up I always envisioned a job in the medical field. While other
little girls wanted to be a princess, I wanted more than anything to be a brain
surgeon. While that may have been an unrealistic goal for me, I did start my
college journey as a nursing major. As time went by I learned more about
myself and my talents and realized that I may not be cut out for the medical
field. My love for the medical field has not ceased and that is why I was
ecstatic to find out that there were public relations jobs in hospitals. Through
my research, I found a job on indeed.com for the Director of Corporate
Communications (DCC) at Rochester Regional Health in Rochester, New York.
The job of a Director or Corporate Communications entails creating and
implementing internal and external communication strategies that are in line
with everything the health system stands for. The DCC is responsible for
maintaining relationships with the community, maintaining good
communication with the hospitals, and creating a plan for issues and crisis
management. The DCC reports to the Chief Communications O4cer (CCO)
but acts as the senior public relations o4cer when in the absence of the
CCO. This is not an entry level job; therefore, it is one where I will have
graduate up to with years of PR experience. I am attracted to this job
because of not only my interest in the medical field, but also because it is a
leadership position and a goal to work toward.
Non-Prot PR
Growing up, my mom always instilled in me the importance of being
able to cook and bake. The more she worked to teach me how, the more that
I grew to love it. My sister even recently graduated from culinary school, it
runs in our blood. That is why I was pleasantly surprised to find the position
